Fencing Coach

Jerry Duffey has been the head coach of the Chatham High School Varsity Fencing Teams since the 2015-2016 season. In that time the CHS teams have transformed from an average team to the best two high school teams in New Jersey. They have racked up 3 State Team Championships, 2 Santelli Team Championships, a Cetrulo Team Championship, 9 Morris County Team Championships, 9 NJAC Conference Team Championships, 4 District Team Championships, plus numerous Squad Championships, and a NJ HS Fencing Coach of the Year.

Coach Duffey began fencing as a freshman walk-on at Drew University where he developed a personal love of the sport as a fencer and for the three discipline format of team fencing. He and Dayn met when Coach Dayn interviewed for the position of head coach of Drew’s fencing team. He began coaching at Westfield Fencing Club in 2005. He took over the fencing head coach position at Chatham High School in 2015. In 2022 he earned a bronze medal at the USFA Summer Nationals for Veteran Mens Sabre Team with his friends. He was awarded the NFHS-NJSIAA Fencing Coach of the year for 2023. He holds a USFCA Moniteur Certification in sabre. He is a certified fencing referee. He is a member of the NJIFA Tournament and Development Committees.

When he is not engaged in fencing or archery, he can be found watching his son horseback riding or teaching equestrian.
